It's so Berkeley......
Protests and Protestors..... Just who do they think is going to pay for their hijinks? Pulling fire alarms, disrupting clases and businesses, sending the lowly paid staff to stand out in the rain is petty vandalism.

http://www.ktvu.com/news/21674608/detail.html

Berkeley Giveaway Event

For those who don't know, I work in Procurement at UC Berkeley and we are moving our offices this week because UCB sold the Marchant buiding located at 6701 San Pablo Ave, Berkeley. This building was home to the Excess and Salvage department for the campus. On Friday, Oct. 23, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. there will be a free-giveaway day. Freebies include office supplies, tables, chairs, and desks. Items will range from excellent to poor condition. In general, these are all items that the University hasn't been able to sell during its usual business hours. There will likely be significant quantities of excellent and good condition office supplies (binders, sorters, boxes, etc. Furniture is likely to be old and heavily used. See the University's listing for further details: http://www.berkeley.edu/news/media/releases/2009/10/13_marchant.shtml

A great deal of the items from this building have already been donated to non profit groups but there is still a lot of stuff that needs to find a home and stay out of the waste stream.

Reduce, Reuse and Recycle!
Obsessive Cataloging

So, there I was procrastinating about SCA financial reports and looking for something else to do... Suddenly, I just had to start cataloging the library -which I had been procrastinating about for at least the last five years. (recurring theme?). So, I discovered librarything which is the coolest tool for PC users... online cataloging with access to over 600 online book databases. 2 weeks, 757 books later and I have cataloged the downstairs. yippee!! I think that I may need to buy a scanner before I tackle the upstairs and the shed...

Relief is at hand

I can breathe a sign of relief. Resumes for my purchasing admin were released to me today. I don't have to spend weeks trying to avoid having some Foobus McFoobus pawned off on my by HR... now, if I only had time to read them.

If this is the best public University...blowing off steam

If this is the best public University, I really don't want to see the worst. Helicopters have been circling the campus all day like vultures. They are hoping for a dead body or two that they can put on the air tonight as the tree-sitting situation draws to an end.

In the meantime, I can't get a live body in to this campus to save my life.. my work life that is. My purchasing admin finally decided to make her sabbatical permanent three weeks ago and our HR group posted the job the same day. The campus won't let you view new applicants for two weeks. As of today, its been 3 weeks since the job was posted and I still can't access applicant's resumes. Grr!

I'm told that there is a 'preferential rehire' that has until the 10th to accept or decline the job. And yet, I haven't seen this person's resume, spoken to the person or have any idea if they are stinky poo that someone wants to rub onto my shoes.

And all of the coaches from my 'favorite' sport are still behaving worse than any three year that I have ever met. At least a three year old will shut up and just enjoy the moment when he or she gets her way. I can only wish that these coaches would do the same.

It may be time to do some job hunting. Bleck! I like taking BART to work.

I miss my friends

So Crown was another event full of 'did you read' and 'are you on LJ.' And I realized that I miss my friends. I don't see enough of you guys. When I do crawl out of my hole, I feel like I've missed the first half of a conversation. So, I'm going to try to kick RAT off the computer occasionally and see what's going on in the world at large. Or at least the cyber version of the world.
